Stephen Lussier
Executive Vice President – Marketing, De Beers Group; Chief Executive Officer - Forevermark

Stephen graduated with a BA (Honours) from Boston College in 1979 and received an MBA from Columbia University in New York in 1981.

After working for the US advertising agency N.W. Ayer in New York, Stephen joined the De Beers Consumer Marketing Division in London in 1985 as the Market Controller for the US and Canada. He then served as Market Controller for Japan from 1989 to 1991 and Regional Director for Asia Pacific from 1991 to 1993, before being appointed Director of the De Beers Consumer Marketing Division in 1993. Stephen was appointed as a Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Director in 1995 and joined the DTC Executive Committee in 2002. In 2005 he was appointed to the De Beers Executive Committee with the responsibility for External and Corporate Affairs. Stephen took up the role of Chief Executive Officer, Forevermark, in 2009 and Executive Vice President – Marketing, De Beers Group, in 2012.

Stephen has led the De Beers Marketing team through a number of major achievements, including the launch of diamond marketing activities in China in 1993 and in India in 2002. His team launched product concepts such as 3-stone rings, diamond tennis bracelets, solitaire necklaces and Journey diamond jewellery. He led the External and Corporate Affairs team with a focus on building the reputation of De Beers and the diamond industry following the negative impact of the conflict diamonds issue. More recently he has overseen De Beers’ investment in De Beers Jewellers and has led the expansion of Forevermark into more than 30 countries and 1,450 retail doors, worldwide.

Maurice Tempelsman
Chairman, Lazar Kaplan International

The largest cutter and polisher of “ideal cut” diamonds in the United States. Mr. Tempelsman served on the International Advisory Council of the American Stock Exchange.  He was elected as Chairman of the Corporate Council on Africa from 1999 – 2002 and again from 2007 – 2008 and served as Chairman Emeritus thereafter. He was the longest serving trustee (1966-2012), and past Chairman, of The Africa-America Institute, and he is a trustee of the Eurasia Foundation. 

Mr. Tempelsman is a Director of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and he chairs the NDI’s Africa subcommittee.  He is a director of the Center for National Policy, the Business Council for International Understanding, the U.S.-Russia Business Council and the King Baudouin Foundation United States. He is Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the Harvard AIDS Institute, and he is an honorary trustee and honorary member of the corporation of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a director of The Academy of American Poets, Mr. Tempelsman also serves as a trustee of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

Mr. Tempelsman has served on several Presidential Commissions including the President’s Commission for the Observance of Human Rights, the Citizen’s Advisory Board of Youth Opportunities and the National Highway Safety Advisory Committee, and was appointed by Governor Carey to the New York Council on International Business. Born in Belgium in 1929, Mr. Tempelsman came to the United States as a child. He attended New York public schools and New York University. He has three children. He is fluent in several languages, and his interests include the fields of history, archaeology and sailing.

Burhan Seber
Honorary Consul Republic of Turkey; Managing Director Hard Stone Processing (Pty.) Ltd.; Former President of DIAMAN

A ’96 graduate of Emory University, Burhan Seber joined the family business. Recognizing the growing influence of producer countries, he launched Hardstone Processing (HSP) in 2001, one of the first factories in Namibia. HSP’s existence led to the creation of Diamdel Namibia, the first local supply.

Burhan presided over the Diamond Manufacturers’ Association of Namibia, and sat as director on the boards of IDMA and the Diamond Board of Namibia.

He has recently opted to focus on his young family, his business and his post as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Turkey in Namibia.

Kombadayedu Kapwanga
Managing Director, LLD Diamonds

Mr Kombadayedu Kapwanga graduated with Masters Degrees in Geology and Mining Engineering from Moscow and in Industrial Management Sciences from London. He worked for Rio Tinto in the UK, Zimbabwe and Namibia before he was appointed the first Director of Mines in Namibia in 1990.

In 1995, he joined the Namibian Minerals Corporation (Namco) and 2003 joined Sakawe Mining Corporation (Samicor) as Director of Samicor and all its subsidiaries, and Managing Director of LLD Diamonds Namibia.

He is the Director of Samicor and its subsidiaries, including LL Namibia Phosphates. Mr Kapwanga is the President of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia and sits on the Diamond Board of Namibia.
